WHO ARE YOU, AND WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOU?

These are excellent questions to ask anyone offering you financial advice. If everyone asked an advisor this right off the bat, there'd probably be a lot less regret further on down the line. If you take away one piece of advice from us, let it be to thoroughly check the credentials of a financial advisor.

PIGGY Plan-It is an idea Ryder and Susan came up with early in 2015. They wanted to find a way to educate their friends about personal finance without boring them to death.  Surprisingly, not everyone is that interested in the topic.  Unless you major in Finance or happen to have a keen interest in the stock market, it's unlikely that you have a solid grasp on investing.

That's where we come in.  Our aim is to bring you up to speed and to help you navigate your finances.

We all work at New Perspectives, Inc., an independent, fee-only financial advisory firm located in Ridgeland, Mississippi.  Nancy started this company in 1993 and brought Ryder on board over five years ago.  Ryder and Nancy are the financial advisors.  Both have earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.  This is a rigorous program that holds charterholders to strict ethical tenants.

Interestingly, the financial advisor profession is one of a handful of careers that doesn't yet have required professional certification oversight.  Anyone can be a financial advisor as long as you can pass an examination.  This means that it's important that you know what you're looking for in an advisor.

A few qualifications to look for:

What certifications does the advisor hold?

Both of our advisors, Nancy and Ryder, are experienced, degree-holding, certified fiduciaries.

How many years of industry  experience does the advisor have?

Does the advisor have a college degree from a reputable institute?
